Snyder Runs the Table in Brainerd
Earns Second Win in Three Races

Last weekend, the Snyder Motorsports Race Team made the trip up to Brainerd, Minnesota for the Lucas Oil National Event. The event, his third national of the season, would turn out to be a very good weekend for the Powersource Transportation sponsored Top Alcohol Funny Car Team who qualified #1 for the event and earned their second career National event victory. With the win, Snyder became the first person in Top Alcohol Funny Car history to win and qualify #1 at a National event with a converter and a clutch.

“This is so exciting for us. After getting the win a couple weeks ago and qualifying number one last week, we thought we were starting to get this new car and set up figured out; it gets better just about every time we go down the track. The car is making so much horsepower right now. I had to drive around every one of my opponents but Dad and the Team gave me the car to do it,” commented the 27 year old driver.

In Snyder’s third qualifying attempt he made a great 5.63 second pass at 256 mph to earn his second number one National event qualifying spot. Later that afternoon, during his first round bye he ran a 5.64 at 255 mph, the quickest pass of the session, to earn lane choice in the second round of eliminations. On Sunday, in the second round, Mustang Sally earned the win light and lane choice in the semi-finals with a 5.61 second pass at 257 mph. With a 5.57 pass at 257 mph, Snyder once again drove around his opponent at the top end and secured lane choice in the final where the Powersource Transportation car ran another nice pass down the quarter mile, 5.61 at 256 mph, to earn the Wally.

“It has been quite a while since we were in a National event winner’s circle and since Lucas has been helping us out this year it was really special to get the win at their event. We changed so many things this year and it looks like they are all paying off. The guys at Spitzer Race Cars built one amazing car for me over the winter and I can’t thank them enough for everything they do for us. We are thrilled to get Powersource Transportation in the winner’s circle in their first year with us as a major sponsor. Over the last couple years, Skip and Barb have become good friends of ours and we couldn’t ask for better people behind this car. And I need to mention Goodson, who is an associate sponsor on our car, this is their home race and Dave was hanging out with us all weekend, it was really nice to be able to have him there to help us celebrate. Hopefully, we will be able to use this momentum throughout the rest of the season.”

Snyder Heads to Brainerd

For the third straight weekend, the Snyder Motorsports Race Team will be heading out on the road. After attending two back-to-back divisional events where they earned one win and ran low et of each event, they will finish out the three race swing in Brainerd, Minnesota at the Lucas Oil Nationals.

“This Powersource Transportation car is running well right now and we feel like we are in the position to be very competitive this weekend. We really like coming up here; one of our favorite events of the year. The track is good and the fans are unlike anywhere else on the circuit. If we can get a little luck on our side I think we will have a good shot at it,” said driver Mick Snyder.

“Brainerd is just one of those tracks that you always seem to come away with a memorable story from the weekend. The zoo is usually good for at least a couple of those every year. One year, my chutes didn’t blossom and I ended up taking a trip on the road course at the end of the track and we runnered-up here in 2005 so maybe this will be the year we take it all the way to the winner’s circle.”

Qualifying for the event begins on Friday at 1:30 PM and continues with the second attempt coming at 4:30 PM. The final attempt will be at 1 PM on Saturday and first round of eliminations will be held at 4:15 Saturday afternoon. Eliminations will continue on Sunday following the first pro session.

Snyder Earns First Win of the Season in Columbus

When three time division champion Mick Snyder turned on the win light in the final in Columbus, Ohio not only was it his first win of the season, but his first win ever at the National Trail Raceway. And, when the Powersource Transportation Team entered the winner’s circle, Mustang Sally earned the first funny car Wally in the history of Spitzer Race Cars.

“I am so excited to get the Powersource Transportation funny car in the winner’s circle. We have had a good car pretty much all year, but we have had the learning curve of a new set up to contend with and it has ended our day a couple of times in eliminations when we thought we had a good chance. Now that we have this one under our belt, hopefully we will be able to get on some kind of roll here,” said Snyder.

The 27 year-old driver qualified number two with a 5.75. In the first round of eliminations, Snyder ran low ET of the event 5.69 to earn the win light. After running a 5.81 in the semi’s, the car went right down the groove in the finals running a 5.75 to earn the victory.

“This win was special for so many reasons. It was the first time Powersource Transportation was in the winner’s circle as a primary sponsor. We really can’t thank Skip and Barb enough for the help they give us. And to be able to give Mike and Karen their first win with a funny car is really special to me. And, then sharing the winner’s circle with Marty, I don’t know what could have made this a better day.”

Snyder Ready for Norwalk

After a weekend off, the Snyder Motorsports Race Team sponsored by Powersource Transportation is ready to get back out on the track.  This weekend, they will be taking Mustang Sally to Norwalk, Ohio for the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals.

Earlier this month, driver, Mick Snyder qualified number one for the very competitive Joliet divisional event with a 5.58 second pass at over 258 mph down the quarter mile.  Unfortunately, in the first round, the car rolled through the lights and he was automatically disqualified.

“I can’t say enough about the Team and the way that everything has come together performance wise this year.  We are still trying to work through a few issues we have been dealing with and once we do hopefully we will start to win some rounds.  Going into the year we knew we had a learning curve and this is just part of it.  With each pass down the quarter-mile we gain data and everyone out here would tell you the more data you have the better off you are,” said Snyder.

“We relaxed a little last weekend and spent some time on the motorcycles; now it is time to get back into race mode.  We came here for the divisional earlier this year and got to check out the improvements they made to the track.  They really did a great job with everything.  I remember racing here back when we were all in Jr. Drag Racing and the place has changed a lot.  It would be awesome to have everything come together and get our first Wally of the season here this weekend.”

Qualifying begins on Friday at 2 PM.  They will get another shot to make the 16 car field on Friday at 5:30 and the final one will come at 10 AM Saturday morning.  First round of final eliminations is at 4:15 on Saturday and they will continue on Sunday following the pros.  For up to date coverage please log onto www.dragracecentral.com.

Snyder Headed Back to Joliet

Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports Race Team were in Joliet last weekend for the Jeg’s All-Star event and the Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 Nationals. This weekend the Team sponsored by Powersource Transportation is headed back to see if they can get their first win of the season on the NHRA tour at the division 3 Lucas Oil Divisional Series event.

Last weekend, Snyder qualified number one for the Jeg’s All-Star event, which showcases the best drivers from across the country, with a 5.61 second pass at 255 MPH. After running a 5.63 in the first round of eliminations to earn lane choice in the semi-final, Snyder could not hold the car at the line when he went to stage turning on the red light.

After eventually qualifying number three for the National event, Snyder headed into first round with lane choice over his opponent. He earned the win light at the other end with a 5.64 at 255 MPH. In the second round, he made another good pass, 5.64, but was unable to hold off his competitor.

“We feel like the car is running well. I mean this is a new car and a different set up than we have ever run before and we are keeping up with some of the best in country. We still have a lot to learn, but I am really excited about everything we learned last weekend. The more passes we can make, the more we are going to learn,” said Snyder.

“I am excited to get back out there this weekend at our home track to see if we can’t bring the Wally home for Powersource Transportation and all of our great sponsors.”

Qualifying for the event begins on Friday evening at 5 PM. They will get two more shots to make the 8 car field on Saturday at 5 and 8 PM. Final eliminations will be held on Sunday following the opening ceremonies.

Snyder Looking to Double Up in Joliet

The Snyder Motorsports Race Team sponsored by Powersource Transportation will head to Joliet, Illinois this weekend where they will compete in both the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals and the Jeg’s All-Star event. They are coming off a good weekend in Norwalk, Ohio where they put together some impressive runs and made it to the semi-finals before the event was eventually postponed due to rain.

“We are really excited to get back out there. This will be our first national of the year and with all the cars coming in from across the country it looks like it is going to be a really tough field. This is going to be the third year we get to represent Division 3 in the All-Stars and the past couple years we haven’t had the best luck. Hopefully, this will be our year. We really have a great team and it would be awesome for Division 3 to be able to win the championship,” said the 26 year old driver, Mick Snyder.

The Team, based about an hour and a half away from the track in DeMotte, Indiana, has had success here before, earning wins on both the National and Divisional levels.

“We have learned so much in the past couple races about the car and the set up. We still have a long way to go, but we are moving in the right direction. Skip and some of the other people from Powersource are going to come out this weekend to watch us and we will also have friends and family from the area on the grounds. The car has been running good so far this year so hopefully we will be able to put it all together and celebrate in the winner’s circle twice with all of them this weekend.”

Qualifying for the event will begin on Friday with runs at 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM. On Saturday, at 10:30 AM the Team will have their final qualifying run for the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals while they run first round of the Jeg’s All-Star event. Eliminations for that event will continue at 2:30 PM and the final will be at 5 PM. Eliminations for the National event will begin on Sunday morning and continue throughout the day.

Snyder Excited to Head to Norwalk

After a strong showing in Martin, Michigan last weekend, Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports Race Team will head to Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio for the Division 3 event. The Team, sponsored by Powersource Transportation, ran career best numbers and set a new track record last weekend and is excited to see how their performance measures up at what is shaping up to be one of the more competitive divisional events of the season.

“We are really excited to get the car out again this weekend. After last weekend, we feel like the car will run some good numbers, but you never know until you get the car out on the track. I was once told that the numbers you hear about don’t mean anything unless you are running your car on the same track in the same conditions as they are because you never know what you would have run. It really makes a lot of sense; this will be a very good test for our Team,” said Snyder.

Snyder, a 3 time divisional champion and Jeg’s All-Star representative, will be behind the wheel of his 2008 Spitzer funny car for the 3 rd outing this season.

“We don’t even have 10 full passes on this car or combination yet, so we are really just trying to figure out what it wants. It is showing a lot of promise so hopefully things will go well. We would really love to get this car in the winner’s circle at the end of the weekend for Powersource Transportation and all of the other great companies that help us out throughout the year.”

Qualifying for the event begins at 6 PM on Friday evening. There will be 2 more qualifying shots on Saturday at 3 PM and 8 PM. Then on Sunday eliminations will begin following the opening ceremonies.

Quick Facts

  • Snyder ran his career best ET this past weekend, 5.57.
  • This is the third year in a row the Team has won the National City Thunder Nationals.
  • For the 3 rd year in a row the Team will represent Division 3 in the prestigious Jeg’s All-Star race in Joliet, Illinois in June.

Snyder Wins Third Straight Thunder Nationals
Runs Career Best ET

This past weekend, Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports Race Team headed to Knoll Gas Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan for the National City Thunder Nationals and for the third year in a row they came out victorious.  It was the second outing of the year for the Team sponsored by Powersource Transportation and they put together a string of good runs, including a 5.57 pass, Snyder’s personal best ET.

“It was a great weekend for the whole Team.  We have been working really hard at this for a long time and we feel like it is finally all coming together.  We came in here planning to test for the Norwalk Divisional event next weekend and put on a show for the amazing fans they have here in Michigan.  I think we accomplished our goals,” said Snyder.

The Team qualified number one for the event with a 5.63 pass.  In the first round of eliminations, Snyder ran a 5.59 in his brand new Spitzer built chassis which earned him lane choice in the final round.   Then in the finals, the second-generation driver covered the quarter mile in 5.57 seconds, a career best ET.

“We are really excited about the way the new combination is responding to our changes.  Hopefully, this is a sign of what is to come the rest of the year.  I can’t say enough about my crew.  This was the first weekend we were trying to run 2 cars, with Shanna running her Spitzer dragster as well, things got a little hectic, but everyone did such an amazing job getting this car prepared.  We are an all volunteer crew and they really don’t get enough credit for all the hard work they put in week in a week out, I couldn’t ask for a better group of people.”

“This is one of our favorite events of the year.  The fans are awesome and it’s a nice track with great people and they really know how to fill the stands.  It is so laid back because there are no points or anything so we are able to go out and have a good time.  Skip, the owner of Powersource Transportation, and his wife Barb were on the grounds the entire weekend and it was great to be able to put the car in the winner’s circle at the end of the day.  I really can’t thank them enough for all they do for us.  Now that we have a baseline, I’m so excited to go to Norwalk next weekend to see what this car can do there.”

The next event for the Team will be next weekend, May 16th thru the 18th, for the Division 3 Lucas Oil series event.

Snyder Debuts New Powersource Transportation FC in Indy

Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports Race Team were in Indianapolis, Indiana for the Division 3 opener this past weekend to debut their brand new Ford Mustang Powersource Transportation Top Alcohol Funny Car. And although the former 3-time divisional champs did not win the race, they were extremely happy with the progress they made over the weekend.

On Thursday, the Team unloaded the new car for the first time and made a half-pass down the famed quarter-mile. The car went remarkably straight and driver Mick Snyder was impressed with the way the car handled and felt. On their second and final pass of the day, Snyder took the car to about 1000 ft. running a 5.80 at 223 MPH.

“We were really happy with how things went on Thursday. Spitzer and the guys made us a great car and we are excited to see how things go the rest of the year. We have a learning curve now, but if we can get past that, we feel like we will be right in the thick of things in this competitive class,” said Snyder.

The Powersource Transportation Team qualified #4 for the event with a 5.72 at 252 MPH. In the first round, Snyder ran a 5.77 and just barely missed taking the win light by .001 or about 8 feet at the other end of the track.

“You always come into a race hoping to win, but with everything we had going on we feel like the weekend was a success. After all the long hours that were spent putting this car together the last few weeks, to go out there and have it run as well as it did right out of the box is a huge weight off our shoulders. Now we just have to concentrate on learning what the new car wants and what we need to do to get this car into the winner’s circle for Skip and all the people at Powersource Transportation. We are looking forward to the next time we can get out to the track and gain some more information to help up towards our goals.”

Snyder Signs New Associate Sponsors

Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports Top Alcohol Funny Car Team is gearing up for the 2008 season and they are proud to announce that Lucas Oil, Jeg’s, The Winning Team and Spitzer Enterprises will be on board.  In what has been a whirlwind off-season full of surprises, the Team has been busy trying to prepare for what they hope will be their most successful season yet.

Since entering the Top Alcohol Funny Car class full time in 2004, the Team has earned 3 Division 3 Top Alcohol Funny Car Championships and 3 Top 10 finishes.  In an up and down season last year, the Team finished 2nd in the Division 3 championship chase and earned its 3rd straight Spitzer Low Qualifier Series Championship.

“We are so excited for the new season.  For the first time since I started racing TAFC, I am going to have a car that is made specifically for me.  Mike and Karen, Brent and the rest of the guys at Spitzer Enterprises have fabricated cars for me since I was back in Jr. Drag Racing.  They have watched my sister and I grow up and are like family to us; it will be great to be back in one of their cars this year,” said Snyder.

“There are no two companies that do more to help sportsman drag racing than Lucas Oil and Jeg’s and we are proud to say that each will support us in an associate roll this year.  We are looking forward to the day that we can put each of them in the winner’s circle.  And we have also been able to get some help from The Winning Team, who make some of the best crew shirts in the business.  They have a great company and we are excited that they have chosen our Team to represent them in 2008.”

The Snyder Motorsports Race Team will also welcome back their associate sponsors Powersource Transportation, Inc., Lencodrive Racing Transmissions, R & R Racing Products, Flatout Gaskets, NGK, Snyder Auto, Long Printing, Goodson, Auto Meter and Torco Racing Fuels.

With the new season just around the corner, the Team continues to prepare for what lies ahead.  There will be other announcements coming soon along with new renderings of the brand new Ford Mustang funny car.
