Snyder Earns 3 rd Straight Divisional Title
3 rd Top 10 Finish in 3 Years for Knoll Gas - TORCO Racing Fuels TAFC

Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports Race Team earned their third straight divisional championship during the 2006 race season as well as their third straight Top 10 finish. The Team sponsored by Knoll Gas – TORCO Racing Fuels earned 3 wins on the season, bringing his total to 8 wins and 9 runner-ups in the three seasons he has competed in the very competitive Top Alcohol Funny Car class.

“We were happy about the way the Team performed this season. It is unreal to think that we earned our third straight divisional championship this year. When you go into a season you work hard and hope that you will be able to defend the championship, but this is drag racing and you can go from hero to zero very quickly. Every year we seem to learn a little bit more about the various tracks and our opponents; hopefully that will make us even better next year,” said Snyder.

During the 2006 season, Snyder qualified #1 at 4 events and became the 72 nd driver to qualify #1 at a National event. His dad, former world champion Larry Snyder, and crew chief on the unique Coan converter and Lencodrive transmission equipped car also earned his second straight Spitzer Low Qualifier Championship this year.

“I can’t say enough about my incredible Team. If it wasn’t for their dedication we wouldn’t be out here racing each year. Our major sponsor Knoll Gas - TORCO Racing Fuels has been so good to us. We really appreciate all the support we receive from Evan, Latrell, Brian and everyone else in the TORCO family throughout the entire year,” Snyder commented. “I also need to thank all of my associate sponsors including Lencodrive Racing Transmissions, R & R Racing Products, Flatout Gaskets, Coan Converters, Snyder Auto, Long Printing and Goodson. Some of these people have been with us since I was back racing Jrs.; I just can’t thank them enough for their support.”

Snyder Looking for Win at TORCO Race Fuels Nationals
Earns 3 rd Straight Divisional Championship

A couple of weeks ago, Mick Snyder, driver of the Snyder Motorsports / Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car, earned his 3 rd straight Division 3 championship. This week, he and the team are heading down to south to the Torco Race Fuels Nationals looking for their first National event win of the season.

“ Columbus was a bitter sweet weekend for us. We were able to wrap up our third straight divisional championship, but the unfortunate events that occurred during the final round put a damper on the celebration. Danny is a really good friend of mine and to watch him wreck like that was kind of scary. I am used to having control of what is going on in the car, but I felt somewhat helpless as I watched him in the car that Sunday. We are just glad that he is going to be ok and hopefully we will see him back out on the track soon.”

The 25 year-old driver also earned his second straight Spitzer Low Qualifier Series Championship in Columbus. The Team is currently sitting in 6 th in the National points standings and hoping to move up into the Top 5 this weekend.

“This is going to be our last event of the season and to top it off, it is the TORCO Race Fuels Nationals which makes it even more special. I really want to earn a win here for the Team and our great sponsor. My Team works so hard week in and week out. I want to thank them for all the hard work and the sacrifices they make in order to be here with us. I can’t begin to thank Evan and the rest of the TORCO family for all they have done for us. Hopefully, we can get in the winner’s circle this weekend and cap off what has been another successful season for the Snyder Motorsports / Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels Team.”

The racing action is scheduled to begin on Friday at 1:15 PM. The second qualifying attempt will come at 4:30 that afternoon. The final qualifying run will take place on Saturday morning at 10:30. Snyder Continues Championship Chase

After a few weeks off, the Snyder Motorsports Race Team will head to Columbus, Ohio this weekend for the final event of the Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The back-to-back defending champions are hoping to pick up another win here and lengthen their points lead over the rest of the Top Alcohol Funny Car field.

“This is a really big race for us. If we can get another win, that will put us one step closer to the divisional championship. There are so many good cars out here that you have to be on top of your game every time you get up to the line. After all, this is drag racing and we all know one mistake can mean the race is over,” said the 25 year-old driver, Mick Snyder.

After the U.S. Nationals Larry and Mick took a much deserved break to tear down the motor and go through everything part by part. Now, with all the pieces put back together, they are ready to get back out on the track. Currently sitting in 4 th place in the National standings, the Team could move up a spot with a good showing here this weekend. The Team is also hoping to wrap-up the Spitzer Low Qualifier Series Championship this weekend. Coming into the final race of the series, they are currently sitting at the top of the leader board, just 1 point ahead of the second place competitor.

We are down to our last couple of races for the season and it would be great to get another couple wins for our great sponsors. Evan and the rest of the Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels family have been so supportive of our operation and we would love to be able to put this car in the winner’s circle for them.”

Quarterfinal Finish for Snyder in Indy
Moves up 4 th in National Points

The Snyder Motorsports Top Alcohol Funny Car sponsored by Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels ended a good weekend at the U.S. Nationals with a quarterfinal loss to the eventual race champion. With the finish, the team moved up into 4 th place in the National points standings.

“It would have been nice to go more rounds on Monday, but we are very happy with our performance this past weekend. We learned a lot more about the car and we feel that it will just continue to improve as we enter the last few races of the year,” said Snyder.

The Team qualified 4 th in the very quick Top Alcohol Funny Car field with a 5.62 at 256 mph. In first round Sunday night, Snyder left on his opponent and never looked back. He took the win light with a 5.64 at 255 MPH. In the second round, Snyder ran a 5.62 at 256 MPH but was unable to take the win light at the other end.

“Frank (Manzo) has his car running great right now. He put down the 7 th quickest run in the history of the class against us second round. That is why he is the king. This team is still young in so many ways. We continue to modify our set-up each weekend and we continue to run better. That is the key to success down the road.”

Snyder Looking for Victory in Indy

The Snyder Motorsports Race Team is headed to Indianapolis this weekend for the prestigious U.S. Nationals. The Team, based out of DeMotte, Indiana, is currently sitting in 5 th place in the National POWERade points standings and looking to move up this weekend in the highly competitive Top Alcohol Funny Car class. After a semi-final finish at last year’s event, the 25 year-old driver is hoping this will be his year to win at the “Big Go”.

“There is so much fanfare and hype surrounding this event each year. Even though there are 23 national events on the NHRA POWERade schedule, Indianapolis is the racing capital of the world and that makes this one special. We had a pretty good showing at this event last year; hopefully this year we will be able to improve on that and get this Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car in the winner’s circle Monday afternoon,” Snyder stated.

Snyder and the Team are returning to the site that first inspired Larry and Mick to get into Jr. Dragster racing about 15 years ago. With some additional support coming on board from Goodson, they are hoping they will be able to put their car in the winner’s circle on Monday.

“We are really excited about Goodson coming on board. The partnership with Snyder Motorsports will be good for both our companies as we continue to expand in the racing industry. Maybe we will be able to come away with one here for Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels and all of our great associate sponsors.”

The Team will receive 4 qualifying shots during the event. The first will come on Thursday at 2:30 PM and two more will be held Friday at noon and 4:30 PM. On Saturday, their final shot to get into the field will be at 11 AM. Sunday morning at 10 AM, the Team will head to the staging lanes for first round of eliminations. Operation Interdependence Low ET Challenge at Mac Tools U.S. Nationals Benefits Deployed U.S. Troops
Chaffee Motorsports, Snyder Motorsports and David Smith Lend Support

Chaffee Motorsports, owner of Top Alcohol Funny Car “American Dream,” Snyder Motorsports, and David Smith, a track enthusiast and photographer, announced today the Operation Interdependence® Low ET Challenge to be held at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals August 30 – September 4 at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. TheLow ET Challengewill benefit Operation Interdependence, a nationwide non-profit organization that is the premier Civilian-to-Military Delivery System® in the U.S.

Operation Interdependence volunteers deliver 50,000 Civilian Rations® (dubbed C-rats®) per month to deployed troops, military families, veterans’ hospitals and VFW’s. C-rats shipped to troops on the front lines are packed in quart-sized plastic baggies and contain items such as snacks, personal care products, and most importantly a letter of well wishes from a thoughtful person back home. The Operation Interdependence delivery system does not impact military resources and ensures that at mail call everyone gets a package. For many soldiers, it’s the only communication they receive from home. Items that do not meet Operation Interdependence shipping standards are donated to military families and veteran’s organizations. Since launching in December 2001, Operation Interdependence has delivered over 1 million C-ratsWITHOUT impacting military resources. To learn more go to www.oidelivers.org.

Chaffee Motorsports is a family owned and operated Top Alcohol Funny Car Race Team from Minnesota. The "American Dream” theme was designed and painted by Gage Chaffee, driver and youngest son of owner's Ron and Barb Chaffee, and represents the family's goal of serving all branches of the military and following their racing passion.

“American Dream” prominently features the Operation Interdependence logo, which Chaffee has displayed at no cost to the organization since 2002. Chaffee and his family are also volunteers for Operation Interdependence. Chaffee’s support of Operation Interdependence is made possible due to the generosity of sponsors Dent Wizard and Minneapolis Auto Auction.

As part of the Low ET Challenge, Chaffee is offering a limited edition “American Dream” – Operation Interdependence Low ET Challenge T-Shirt that will be available beginning with the Indianapolis event. Chaffee is asking a $20 donation to Operation Interdependence for each T-shirt. All proceeds will benefit Operation Interdependence. Because Chaffee is not appearing at the Mac Tools Nationals, Mick Snyderof Snyder Motorsports – the NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car 2004 and 2005 Division 3 Champion – and David Smith will have the T-shirts available at the track. Snyder's Weekend Ends in the Quarterfinals

Mick Snyder, driver of the Knoll Gas – Torco Racing Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car, was in Brainerd, Minnesota this past weekend at the Lucas Oil Nationals. The Team qualified 6 th for the event and put four very consistent numbers on the board. Even though they picked up ET throughout the weekend, it still wasn’t enough to take out their competitor in the quarterfinal round.

“This is a great team. We are capable of going out and winning races, we just need to put it all together. Our operation is still very young compared to most of the people running in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class. We learn something new every weekend and are continuing to see improvement in our set up,” said Snyder.

In qualifying the Team ran a 5.75, good for the 6 th qualifying position. In the first round, Snyder ran a 5.73 at 252 MPH to get the round win. The 25 year-old driver cut a great .024 light in the quarterfinal match-up and ran a 5.71 at 253 MPH but was unable to hold off his opponent.

“We would love to go out and win every event we attend, but we all know how in this sport you can be on top of the world one day and at the bottom of the hill the next. As we continue to change the car we will continue to improve. The results will come.”

This will be the first time the Snyder Motorsports Race Team, sponsored by Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels, has had the opportunity to race at Gateway Raceway Park.

“Since we don’t get to come here for the National event, we are really looking forward to seeing what this track will be able to hold. Snyder Earns Second Win of the Season
Extends His Lead in the Division 3 Championship Chase

As champions were being crowned down in Bristol, Tennessee for the Jr. Dragster Nationals, former Jr. racer and Marketing Director for Snyder Motorsports (the family-owned business specializing in Jr. dragster parts and Lencodrives), Mick Snyder was standing in the Winner’s Circle in Joliet, Illinois at the Lucas Oil Divisional Series Event. The Snyder Motorsports / Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels sponsored Top Alcohol Funny Car Team earned their second win of the season and made their 3rd straight appearance to the final round on the divisional level.

The back-to-back defending Division 3 championship Team qualified number 3 by running a 5.73 down the very hot and slippery quarter-mile track. Early Sunday afternoon, during the first round of eliminations Snyder took the win light with a 5.81 at 250 mph. In the semi-finals, Snyder left on his opponent and was able to cover the quarter mile in 5.82 seconds at 252 mph to take the win light. The final round, the 25 year-old driver cut a great .009 light and never looked back as he drove away from his opponent stopping the clocks at 5.79 at 252 mph.

“This was a great win for us. This track is usually either really good to us or really bad to us. We have been to the finals here 4 times over the past 3 years [earning 2 wins] but we also had a tire come off one year and I hit the wall here just last month. I am really excited to be standing here in the winner’s circle with my family and friends,” Snyder commented.

“This was the first race that my Aunt Tami [dad’s sister] has seen us win. It was really great to see the two of them together in the winner’s circle. We have so many tough competitors out here that we need to pick up as many points as possible when we have the chance. Today was our day. Hopefully we will be able to repeat the performance in St. Louis in a couple of weeks.”

For their next event, the Snyder Motorsports Race Team sponsored by Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels will head to St. Louis. The event, held on August 4 – 6, will be the fourth Lucas Oil Divisional Series event for the Team.

Snyder Continues Title Defense in Joliet

Current defending champion and Division 3 points leader Mick Snyder will continue his title defense in Joliet, IL this weekend at the Lucas Oil Divisional Series event. The Snyder Motorsports / Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car driver is returning to the track for the first time since he hit the wall last month during the Jeg’s All-Star event.

“We have spent the last month taking care of our business, Snyder Motorsports, and getting the car repaired and ready to go. I don’t want to say it was fortunate that I hit the wall, but the timing of the situation was pretty good for us. We had already planned to take about a month off so we had plenty of time to thoroughly go through everything. I know the team and I are really excited to get back out there after such a long break in the middle of the race season,” Snyder said.

“We love coming to this track because it is so close to our shop and it is an excellent facility. Last year we runner-upped at this event; hopefully this year we will be able to get this Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels car in the winner’s circle.”

The Team, which is based out of DeMotte, Indiana, already has earned one win and two runner-up finishes this year.

Friday evening the Team will make their first qualifying effort at 5 PM. On Saturday they will receive two more shots at 5 PM and 8 PM. Early Exit in Joliet for Snyder

In Joliet, IL last weekend, the Snyder Motorsports / Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car Team performed well, but was unable to come away with a victory at their home track.

The Team started off the weekend well, qualifying #3 in the Jeg’s event and #4 for the Carquest Auto Parts Nationals. That is when the weekend took a turn no one saw coming. During the first round of the Jeg’s All-Star race, when Snyder hit his first shift, the car lifted up the front tires again and made a hard move into the right side wall. Luckily, the 24 year-old driver was able to recover quickly and climbed out unhurt. The damage to the body of the car was significant, but mainly cosmetic.

“The car was on a great pass. I think we finally found the extra power we have been looking for, now Dad and I just need to figure out how to harness it. Because of how our schedule is set up this year, we have an entire month to get the body of the car fixed before we head to our next race,” Snyder said.

On Sunday morning, the Team was ready to get back out on the track for the first round of eliminations. They motored down the track at 5.64 and 255 mph, unfortunately it was not enough to take out his opponent who ran a personal best ET.

“We set up the car to go from point A to point B in first round. Dad just really wanted the car to run a smooth straight pass down the grove. The car did exactly what he told it to, it just wasn’t enough today,” commented Snyder. “We have so many people to thank for their help getting the body of the car fixed. At one point there were 3 different people working on the body and none of them were from our team. We can’t begin to thank them enough for their efforts, there is no way we would have made first round on Sunday without the help of Brian Olson, ‘The Fonz’ (David Kovar), David from Vern Moat’s crew, and Doug from Dale Creasy’s Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels Top Fuel crew.”

For their next event the Team will head back to Joliet for the Lucas Oil Divisional Racing Series event July 14 th – 16 th.

Snyder Shoots for Double-up in Joliet

This weekend, Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports / Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car Team will be competing in the Carquest Auto Parts Nationals in Joliet, Illinois. Additionally, the Team will be representing Division 3 as a participant in their first ever Jeg’s All-Star competition. After an off weekend in which Mick and crew joined over 9,000 other motorcycle enthusiasts in a charity ride to benefit Riley Children’s Hospital, everyone is anxious to get out to the track.

“Last week was a lot of fun; the riders raised over $330,000 for the children of Riley Hospital. Danny Townsend came over from Muncie and rode with us as well. It was a lot of fun to hang out with him and the team away from the track. As dad would say we are in “race mode” again this weekend and ready to get back out there,” Snyder said.

It hasn’t been all play for the team the past couple weeks. Since Topeka, they have been hard at work in the shop trying to make sure they will be ready to make the nine runs it will take to get to the finals of both races. They have had good luck at this track in the past. Snyder has been to the finals the past 2 fall Joliet events, earning his first NHRA National event win here in 2005.

“This is one of our favorite races of the year. The track is about an hour from the shop so we have a lot of friends and family attend. And the facilities and track conditions here are always great. This National event has some of the best competition we see all year because everybody comes to town for the Jeg’s All-Star event. Hopefully, we will be able to run some good numbers here and go rounds in both events.”

The event will begin on Friday afternoon with qualifying at 1:00 and 5:30 PM. On Saturday morning at 10:30 AM, the team will make another run which will count as the final round of qualifying and the first round of the Jeg’s All-Star event. Eliminations for the Jeg’s event will continue throughout the day with final round at 4:00 PM. On Sunday, eliminations for the National event will begin at 11 AM.

“We have a lot of great people who contribute to this operation throughout the year. We could not be out here competing at this level without their help. TORCO Racing Fuels has been behind us the past couple years and we can’t thank them enough for their support.”

“We also have some great associate sponsors including Coan Converters, Flatout Gaskets, Lencodrive Racing Transmissions, Long Printing, R&R Racing Products and Snyder Auto. Snyder Dominates the Field at Thunder Nationals Invitational

The TORCO Racing Fuels sponsored Top Alcohol Funny Car, driven by Mick Snyder, delivered an outstanding performance this weekend at the Thunder Nationals held in Martin, Michigan, less than an hour away from the TORCO headquarters. It was the first time in his career that Snyder participated in an invitational event and he did it in style, getting quicker and faster each run down the quarter-mile. The event showcased a number of the TORCO sponsored cars and many of the employees came out to enjoy a beautiful day at the US 131 Motorsports Park facilities, including owner Evan Knoll.

“This event wasn’t about us, it was about TORCO Racing Fuels and everything they have invested in us and the sport of drag racing over the last few years. We had never been to anything like this before with the funny car so we weren’t really sure what to expect,” said the second-generation driver. “It was a very relaxing atmosphere, especially for a race day. We didn’t have to worry about points or any of the other pressures that come from racing on the NHRA circuit. The facilities and staff at US 131 Motorsports Park are great and everyone treated us really well this weekend.”

The Snyder Motorsports Race Team began the weekend qualifying #1 with a 5.78. In the semi-finals, 24 year-old Snyder was first off the line and broke the beams at the other end with a 5.76. Then, in the finals under the lights, Snyder left on his opponent and laid down a 5.74 pass at 249 mph to take the win light.

“We really appreciate everything that TORCO has done for our Team and we don’t take any of their support for granted. It isn’t often that we get to see Evan at a race so it was especially important to us to go out and run some good numbers and gain some exposure for the TORCO Racing Fuels brand.”

The next event for the team will be this Memorial Day weekend in Topeka, Kansas at the O’Reilly Summer Nationals.

2006 Quick Stats

  • Snyder has been to the finals in 3 of the last five National events he as participated in dating back to Brainerd of last year.

Snyder Back Behind the Wheel for the Thunder Nationals

After a few weeks off, the Snyder Motorsports Race Team is back in action this weekend. Not at a traditional NHRA divisional or national event, but at the Thunder Nationals held in Martin, Michigan at US 131 Motorsports Park. For Mick Snyder, driver of the TORCO Racing Fuels sponsored Top Alcohol Funny Car, this will be the first time he has participated in an invitational event.

“This is going to be a brand new experience for our team. Traditionally, we test at the beginning of the year and then attend divisional and national point events for the remainder of the year,” Snyder remarked. “We have never been to an invitational before, but when the gang at TORCO Racing Fuels called to ask us about attending we welcomed the opportunity to represent our great sponsor. Especially since the event will be held less than an hour away from the TORCO Racing Fuels headquarters in Decatur, Michigan.”

“Don’t get me wrong we want to win this event and put on a good show for all of our TORCO family that is coming out to see us run this weekend, but we are planning to use this event as a test session. Dad and I are always coming up with new things to try to make the car quicker and faster. Usually we have to test these ideas during point events. This will be a great opportunity for us to see how our ideas work before heading to Topeka next week.”

Qualifying for the event will be at 4 PM on Saturday. First round of eliminations will be held at 7 PM and final round will be under the lights at 10 PM.

Snyder Clinches Jeg’s All Star Appearance
3rd Straight Final Round Appearance, 3rd Straight #1 Qualifier

The Snyder Motorsports / TORCO Racing Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car, driven by 24 year-old Mick Snyder, earned a runner-up finish in the Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener held in Indianapolis this past weekend. It was the third final round for the reigning back-to-back Division 3 champions in as many events. That was all they needed to clinch the Jeg’s All-Star spot for Division 3 in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

The Purdue University graduate, drove the Lencodrive Transmission / Coan Converter equipped Firebird to the number one qualifying position for the 3 rd straight race. A feat that earned him the Spitzer Low Qualifier series award for the weekend.

“We are pleased with our performance this weekend; I mean, how could we be upset? We have qualified number one and made it to three straight final rounds. It would still be nice to get another win. We felt like the car was responding well to our adjustments, in the final we just didn’t give ourselves a chance when we shook the tires,” Snyder admitted. “Being the Jeg’s All-Star for Division 3 is so exciting for myself and the entire team. It is such an honor to represent this great group of competitors from the ‘Land of the Winners’. Hopefully, my All-Star teammates and I will be able to bring home that divisional championship this year.”

Snyder qualified #1 for the event at 5.71 at 250 mph, almost a tenth better than his closest competitor. In the first round of eliminations, Snyder ousted his opponent and earned lane choice in the semi-finals by covering the quarter-mile in 5.71 seconds at 249 mph. In his second round match-up, Snyder was first off the line and took the win light with a 5.73 at 251 mph. Final round, he was once again first off the line with a great .030 light, but the car shook hard and he coasted across the finish line.

“Evan, Brian, Latrell and all the great people in the TORCO Racing Fuels family have been so good to us the past couple of years. We are really happy that we have been able to start off the season so well and give their products some additional attention on the racing circuit. We can’t begin to thank them enough for their support of our operation.”

Snyder Looking for Second Win of the Season

The Snyder Motorsports Race Team will be in Indianapolis this weekend to participate in the postponed Division 3 season opener. The Team is fresh off a win they earned in Valdosta, Georgia at the divisional event two weeks ago.

After taking a week off to celebrate the Easter holiday, the defending Division 3 champions are looking forward to getting back out on the track. “The car has been running really well the last two events. Hopefully, we will be able to put on a good show in front of the hometown crowd this weekend,” Snyder commented. “We always enjoy racing in state because our friends and family come out to the track to check out the car. It gets a little hectic sometimes with so many people in the pits, but it is unbelievable to have so many people come out to support the team.”

Snyder, who has qualified #1 and been to two straight final rounds, will also be beginning his defense of the Spitzer Low Qualifier Championship. The series, sponsored by Mike and Karen Spitzer of Spitzer Enterprises, awards points based on the qualifying order in the Division 3 Top Alcohol classes.

“Mike and Karen are really doing a lot to support the Top Alcohol classes in Division 3. Last year, we were honored to be the recipients of the inaugural championship trophy. Hopefully, our TORCO Racing Fuels Firebird will be able to defend that title this year.”

The event will begin on Friday evening with qualifying at 4 PM. On Saturday, the Team will have two more qualifying shots at 1 PM and 4:30 PM. Eliminations will begin on Sunday at noon and continue throughout the day.

Snyder Earns First Win of the 2006 Season
Second Straight Final, Second Straight #1 Qualifier

The Snyder Motorsports Race Team sponsored by TORCO Racing Fuels headed down to Valdosta, Georgia this weekend to participate in the Division 2 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event and earned their first win of the 2006 season. The Team was scheduled to compete in the Indianapolis Divisional, but after learning on Thursday the event was being rescheduled they loaded up the trailer and headed much further south. Fortunately, they arrived safely and being in the winner’s circle made it well worth the adventurous trip through the tornados and severe thunderstorms that moved through the southeastern part of the country.

On Saturday, the two qualifying shots for Top Alcohol Funny Car and Top Alcohol Dragster were canceled due to the weather. It was decided they would run their first and only round of qualifying on Sunday morning at 10 AM and begin eliminations at 1 PM. The 24 year-old driver, Mick Snyder, earned the #1 qualifying position with a 5.68 at 251 mph. He ran 5.70 at 251 MPH first round and earned lane choice for the second round match-up. In the semi-finals Snyder was first to the finish line running a 5.72 at 248 MPH. During the final round, the blower belt came off the car at around 1200 feet but he was able to make it to the finish line first and take the win.

“It was great to get this TORCO Racing Fuels Pontiac back into the winner’s circle again. We feel like the car is responding very well right now. That final round wasn’t exactly how we planned it, but we got the win light,” Snyder commented. “I felt the blower belt come off and the car just stopped running. I could see the finish line and I just kept waiting for him to come flying by me, but he didn’t till just after we crossed the stripe.”

With the win this weekend the Team climbed into the 6 th position in the POWERade National points standings. Their next scheduled event is the Division 3 opener on April 21 st thru the 23 rd in Indianapolis.

The Team would like to thank our major sponsor TORCO Racing Fuels and our associate sponsors Coan Converters, Design 500, Flatout Gaskets, Lencodrive Racing Transmissions, Long Printing, R & R Racing Products, Snyder Auto and Spitzer Race Cars for their continued support this year.

Snyder Qualifies #1 Enroute to Runner-Up Finish in Houston

The Snyder Motorsports/TORCO Racing Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car headed to Houston for the O’Reilly Summer NHRA National event and added to their growing list of accomplishments. Mick Snyder, driver of the Coan converter, Lencodrive-equipped Firebird, became the 72 nd person to qualify #1 at a National event in the history of the class by running 5.62 at 255.39 mph. Moreover, it was the first time ever a converter-equipped car was able to accomplish this feat.

Driver, Mick Snyder, and his dad Larry have spent many late nights in the shop critiquing and modifying their original set up with that very goal in mind. This weekend, the two of them were finally able to see all their hard work and sleepless nights pay off. “It is great to come out here and show that we are able to run with the best of the best. There was a really tough field of cars out here this weekend and at the end of qualifying we were at the top of the ladder. Dad and I have been dreaming of this day for a long time now; it was unbelievable to see that dream realized,” Snyder commented.

After qualifying ended, the Team still had a lot of work to do. They took the TORCO Racing Fuels sponsored funny car all the way to the final round before losing by just 3 feet at the stripe. The final round appearance was the 3 rd in their last 5 National events for the back-to-back defending Division 3 championship Team.

Saturday night, the Team took the win light with a 5.67 second pass at 253.04 mph and earned lane choice for the second round to be held on Sunday morning. They continued with their success by winning a close second round race running 5.63 at 255.82 mph. With lane choice once again in the semi-finals, the team raced down the quarter mile running a 5.65 at 255.92 mph; the best time of the round for the second straight time. In the finals, Snyder left first and the Team ran another good lap, 5.66 at 254.23 mph, but just missed the winner’s circle by a few feet at the finish line.

“It would have been so nice to take this Firebird wire-to-wire today, but we are happy with the runner-up finish. We ran well all weekend and the final round was no different. We just lost a really close race,” remarked Snyder. “We feel really good about the way we performed this weekend. With such a great group of competitors here, it is difficult to get past first round, much less make it to the finals. Snyder Makes First Trip Down to Houston

This weekend, the Snyder Motorsports Race Team will head south for the first time in history from DeMotte, Indiana to Houston, Texas to participate in the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA POWERade Spring Nationals. The Team is anxious to get their TORCO Racing Fuels Top Alcohol Funny Car back on the racetrack after an uncharacteristic showing in the Gatornationals just two weeks ago.

Driver, Mick Snyder, the 24 year-old two time defending Division 3 champion, is looking forward to the upcoming challenge of the weekend. “We didn’t start off the year exactly like we would have wanted. We were kind of behind the eight ball after the first qualifying pass and we just never got back on track,” Snyder commented. “It was only one race though; everyone has an off weekend sooner or later. We went home and went about our normal routine and feel confident coming into this weekend. Hopefully, we will have this Snyder Motorsports/TORCO Racing Fuels Funny Car back into the winner’s circle again soon.”

Qualifying for the event will begin on Friday at 1:00 PM with a second run scheduled for 5:00 PM. The final qualifying shot will be at 10:30 AM Saturday and the first round of eliminations is set to commence at 4:15 PM. Eliminations will resume Sunday morning at 11:00 AM following the pros. Up to date coverage of the event can be found on DragRaceCentral.com.

Snyder Ready for Season to Begin in Gainesville

Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports/TORCO Racing Fuels Team will kick off the 2006 race season this weekend at Gainesville Raceway. The defending Division 3 champion tested at the Eastern Spring Test Nationals last weekend in Valdosta, Georgia and the 24-year-old driver added to his growing list of accomplishments by breaking the existing track record en route to the Chicago-Style Showdown championship in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Snyder, who finished 5th in the POWERade points standings last year, is looking forward to the challenge of the upcoming season. “The whole Team is really anxious to get back out on the track. We have spent the entire winter preparing for the 2006 season. Hopefully, we will be able to start the season right where we left off.” Last year in Joliet at their final event of the season, the team claimed a runner-up finish and recorded the first ever 5.5 second pass down the quarter mile by a converter-equipped car.

“It felt really good to be behind the wheel of the car after the winter hiatus and we had a chance to try some of our new ideas during the test session as well. The Top Alcohol Funny Car division is going to be as competitive as ever this year,” remarked Snyder. “The typical frontrunners are running well right now and there are going to be some new cars out here mixing it up too. Our goal is to be right in the right in the thick of things when it comes down to the last couple races.”

The TORCO Racing Fuels sponsored funny car team will make their first lap down the quarter mile at 1:30 Friday afternoon. They will have two more shots, one Friday and one Saturday, before final eliminations begin at 5:00 Saturday evening. For real time coverage of the Gatornationals please visit dragracecentral.com.

Snyder Motorsports Renews with TORCO Racing Fuels

Mick Snyder and the Snyder Motorsports Top Alcohol Funny Car Team have renewed with TORCO Racing Fuels for the 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season. The Team based out of DeMotte, Indiana is coming off a very strong 2005 season where they posted a personal best 5 th place finish in the POWERade National points standings.

“Everyone at Snyder Motorsports is very excited to be working with TORCO Racing Fuels again in the 2006 race season. Evan, Brian, Latrell and all the people in the TORCO family have been so good to us. Last year, with TORCO by our side, we posted our best finish yet. We are looking forward to improving on that mark in the 2006 season. None of this would be possible without the help from TORCO Racing Fuels and our other great sponsors,” said the 2-time Division 3 champion.

During the 2005 season, the Team, with their unique combination consisting of a Coan Torque Converter and Lencodrive Racing Transmission, earned 3 wins and 1 runner-up finish on the divisional level while on their way to their second straight Division 3 Championship. They qualified number one at all but one of their divisional contests earning the Spitzer Low Qualifier Series Championship.

The Team has continued to improve since 2003 when they first entered the Top Alcohol Funny Car ranks. This year they posted runner-up finishes at Brainerd and Joliet on the National level. In September, driver Mick Snyder became the 23 rd person to run a sub 5.6 second pass down the quarter mile. It was first time in history this feat was accomplished with a funny car equipped with a converter.

“We are really looking forward to the 2006 season. We have learned so much over the past two years about the different tracks and our combination. I believe that we will only get better as we continue to run this car on the NHRA circuit. I would like to thank TORCO Racing Fuels for coming on board with this race team for the 2 nd year. We are thankful to have the support of such great people and an outstanding company. We will do our best represent them well in the upcoming season.”

Snyder Motorsports would also like to thank their associate sponsors for their continued support- Lenco Racing Transmissions, Coan Torque Converters, Flatout Gaskets, R&R Racing Products, and Snyder Auto.
