In 2007 the Snyder Motorsports Top Alcohol Funny Car Team, sponsored by Powersource Transportation, Inc., earned two wins on the NHRA circuit enroute to a 12 th place finish in the Lucas Oil national points standings and a 2 nd place finish in the divisional standings. Driver, Mick Snyder, made his second straight appearance in the prestigious Jeg’s All-Star event and the Team earned their 3 rd straight Spitzer Low Qualifier Series championship. Over the last four years the Team has accumulated 3 Division 3 championships and 3 top-ten finishes in the Lucas Oil national points standings.
Snyder, who began driving at the age of 11 in the Jr. Dragster ranks, moved up through the sportsman classes racing Super Comp and Pro Outlaw. He continued his quest by moving into the Top Alcohol Dragster category in 2001 and found his home in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class midway through the 2003 season. After using the remainder of that season to learn the ropes, Snyder established himself as one of the premier drivers in the very competitive class by winning back-to-back-to-back championships from 2004 thru 2006.
During the last 4 years, world-renowned crew chief and businessman, Larry Snyder and his son made a name for themselves in the drag racing industry by accomplishing feats no one thought possible with their unique Coan Torque Converter and Lencodrive Transmission combination. Deemed the Quickest and Fastest automatic car in the world, the Snyder’s rewrote history during their climb to the top. Over the years, Larry has been recognized for his accomplishments when he was presented with the Pro/Sportsman Crew Chief of the Year award in Division 3 twice and Mick also earned the driver of the year award. And in April 2006 they became the first converter-equipped car and 72 nd in the history of the Top Alcohol Funny Car class to qualify #1 at a national event. For the 2008 season, the Snyder’s have reunited with their long time friend and chassis builder Mike Spitzer, who constructed a brand new Ford Mustang Top Alcohol Funny Car for them during the off-season.
The Team, based out of DeMotte, Indiana, is family owned and the crew consists of family members and friends who volunteer their time each weekend. Mick’s mother, Bev, is an intricate part of the race team. She attends each race and has many duties to perform between runs including monitoring the air. His sister Shanna, who also is also driver in the Super Comp class, and her husband Darren help out and attend as many races as possible throughout the season. Other members of the Powersource Transportation Team include Scott and Yvonne Vandenburg, Carey Hamstra, Rick Herma, Pat Sheetz, Brian Pfeifer, Fred Yeager, Rick Cummings, and Jake Prairie.
Competing in the NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car class takes a lot of hard work and energy throughout the year. The Team would like to thank all of their great sponsors and friends who make the dream possible including, Gibby Reed, Mike and Karen Spitzer and all the guys at Spitzer Race Cars and Rhyne Competition.
