After a successful inaugural campaign in the ADRL Pro Extreme series, 2010 Rookie of the Year Mick Snyder, and the Snyder Motorsports Race Team will be back at it in 2011 competing the ADRL’s top class. The Team, which has earned numerous championships on the IHRA and NHRA circuits over the last 10 years, is entering their second year in the series in which they earned one win and turned many heads during the 2010 season.
The 29 year-old, who has the unique distinction of winning behind the wheel of a funny car, dragster, and pro mod, began driving at the age of 11 in the Jr. Dragster ranks. He made the natural progression into the sportsman classes beginning with Super Comp followed by Pro Outlaw. In 2001 he made another step up to the Top Alcohol Dragster category before entering into the Top Alcohol Funny Car class midway through the 2003 season; competing there until 2009. During that time, he established himself as one of the premier drivers in the class, winning 3 divisional championships and 5 Top 10 finishes in 6 years. Last year, Snyder accomplished something only a handful of people have when he earned a Minuteman in Norwalk, Ohio, to go along with the Wallys and Ironmen already on his shelf.
Over the years, world-renowned crew chief and businessman, Larry Snyder and his son have made a name for themselves in the drag racing industry by accomplishing feats no one thought possible with their unique Coan Torque Converter and Lencodrive Transmission combination. Last year, they used this knowledge to prove they have what it takes to compete alongside that best of the best with their shorter wheel based suspension equipped ’63 split window Corvette.
The Team, based out of DeMotte, Indiana, is family owned and the crew consists of family members and friends who volunteer their time each weekend. Mick’s mother, Bev, is an intricate part of the race team. She attends each race and has many duties to perform between runs including monitoring the air. His sister Shanna, who also drives in the Super Comp class, and her husband Darren help out and attend as many races as possible throughout the season. Other members of the Powersource Transportation Team include Scott and Yvonne Vandenburg, Jeff, Kathy and Matt Bohr and Lindsey Pendergrass. Powersource Transportation owners, Skip and Barb Bakos also lend a helping hand whenever possible.
Competing in the ADRL Pro Extreme class takes a lot of hard work and energy throughout the year. The Team would like to thank all of their great sponsors and friends who support us including Gibby Reed and Rhyne Competition. And a special thanks to car owners, friends and teammates, Mitchell and Jason Scruggs, without their help, the dream of racing Pro Mod would not have been possible.
